Rather than treating architecture or public space as a backdrop, Newby works with windows, pavements, walls, floors, doors and landscape as active sites of artistic inquiry , embedding sculpture within the experience of inhabiting a place. <\/p>\n<p>In the exhibition The leaves were brighter than the grass, Kate Newby\u2019s works enter into dialogue with the former Dimesse church, built around 1720 and now home to Fondazione Bonollo.<\/p>\n<p>Through a movement of deposits and withdrawals, the exhibition The leaves were brighter than the grass adds new strata of forms and meanings to the history of the site. Kate Newby\u2019s works alter its perspectives, offer new openings, and transform the way we look at its architecture while revealing it in all its complexity . She lives and works in Texas. She is the recipient of the Walters Prize (2012), the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters &#038; Sculptors Grant (2019), and the Ettore Fico Prize (2022). Recent solo exhibitions include I\u2019m asking, Museum Folkwang, Essen (2026); Hours in wind, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney (2024); anything, anything, Klosterruine, Berlin (2024); SHE\u2019S T ALKING TO THE WALL, T e Papa T ongarewa, Wellington (2023); and I can\u2019t nail the days down, Kunsthalle Wien (2018).
